Across Wales and the wider United Kingdom, our clients report that structured leadership development reduces team attrition by a meaningful margin within the first year. We work with organisations that are ready to invest in their people — not just their processes.

Leadership Development that reshapes how your organisation grows

At Leadership Catalyst Steps, we believe that leadership is not a title — it is a practice. Our programmes are designed around the real challenges your managers, directors, and emerging leaders face every day. We combine behavioural science, coaching methodology, and strategic thinking to create development experiences that stick.

Whether you are scaling a team of fifteen or transforming a division of five hundred, our approach adapts to your context. We do not deliver off-the-shelf workshops. Every engagement starts with a diagnostic conversation and ends with measurable leadership capability gains.

"The diagnostic phase alone revealed blind spots our board had overlooked for years. The follow-through was extraordinary."
— Operations director, Welsh manufacturing firm
"We saw a genuine shift in how our middle managers handled conflict and delegation within three months."
— HR lead, Bristol-based tech company

Our facilitated sessions blend individual reflection with group dynamics, creating lasting behavioural change rather than temporary motivation.

Capability framework

Rather than a flat list of services, we organise our work around six leadership capabilities. Each engagement targets the specific capabilities your organisation needs most. This framework has been refined over years of client work across sectors including healthcare, technology, education, and professional services.

How organisations engage with us

Foundation programme

A six-month cohort experience for first-time managers and high-potential individual contributors. Participants work through real workplace challenges with peer support, facilitated learning, and individual coaching. Each cohort is limited to twelve participants to ensure depth of engagement. The programme covers self-awareness, feedback fluency, delegation, and the transition from doing to leading.

Mentoring architecture

We help organisations design and launch internal mentoring programmes that actually sustain themselves. This includes mentor training, matching methodology, progress tracking, and quarterly programme health reviews. Most internal mentoring schemes fail within a year — ours are designed to endure because we build accountability and recognition into the structure from day one.

Executive advisory

Confidential, one-to-one advisory partnerships for directors, founders, and C-suite leaders navigating complex transitions. Sessions are scheduled around your calendar and focus on strategic thinking, stakeholder dynamics, and personal sustainability. This is not therapy and it is not consulting — it is a thinking partnership grounded in leadership research and practical experience.

Board effectiveness review

A structured diagnostic of board dynamics, decision quality, and governance culture. We interview each board member individually, observe a board meeting, and deliver a confidential report with specific, actionable recommendations. Many boards operate on assumptions about their own effectiveness that have never been tested. This process surfaces what is working and what is quietly undermining performance.

Leadership culture sprint

A rapid, intensive engagement designed for organisations going through significant change — mergers, restructures, or rapid growth. Over eight weeks, we work with the leadership team to define the leadership behaviours the organisation needs, assess current reality, and build a practical development plan. The sprint includes team workshops, individual assessments, and a leadership culture playbook.

What a recent client said

"The culture sprint gave us a shared language for leadership that we had never had before. It changed how we hire, how we promote, and how we have difficult conversations."

— Chief people officer, Cardiff-based financial services group

Your development pathway

Every engagement follows a deliberate sequence. We do not jump straight to delivery because the most impactful development work begins with understanding context, readiness, and organisational dynamics.

Discovery conversation

A confidential, no-obligation dialogue where we explore what leadership challenge you are facing, what you have already tried, and what success would look like. This typically takes sixty to ninety minutes and can happen in person or remotely.

Diagnostic assessment

Depending on the scope, this may involve stakeholder interviews, psychometric profiling, team surveys, or observational work. The goal is to build a clear, evidence-based picture of current leadership capability and culture.

Design and alignment

We co-create the development plan with your leadership team, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and practical constraints. Nothing is imposed — every element is discussed and agreed.

Facilitated development

Delivery of coaching, workshops, cohort programmes, or advisory sessions according to the agreed plan. We adapt in real time based on participant feedback and emerging organisational needs.

Sustained integration

Development does not end when the programme finishes. We provide follow-up coaching, progress reviews, and integration support to ensure new leadership behaviours become embedded in daily practice.

Readiness check

Not every organisation is ready for deep leadership development work. Here are the signals that suggest you are:

You have senior sponsorship

At least one senior leader is personally committed to the development initiative and willing to participate, not just endorse from a distance.

You can protect participant time

Development requires time away from operational demands. If your leaders cannot carve out focused hours, the investment will not land.

You want behaviour change, not just knowledge

Our work is designed to shift how leaders act, not just what they know. If you are looking for a lecture series, we are probably not the right fit.

Working principles

We are transparent about how we work. These principles guide every engagement and are non-negotiable. They protect the quality of our work and the trust our clients place in us.

  • Confidentiality first. What leaders share in coaching and diagnostic processes stays confidential. We never report individual content to sponsors without explicit consent.
  • Evidence over opinion. Our methods are grounded in peer-reviewed research and validated frameworks, not personal philosophy or motivational rhetoric.
  • Honest feedback. We will tell you what we see, even when it is uncomfortable. Organisations do not grow by hearing only what they want to hear.
  • No dependency. Our goal is to build your internal capability, not to create a permanent consulting relationship. We design ourselves out of the picture.

The best way to explore whether we are a good fit is a brief, informal conversation. Fill in the form or contact us directly — there is no obligation and no sales pressure.

"From the very first call, it was clear they understood the nuances of leading in a regulated environment. Refreshingly practical."
— Clinical director, NHS trust

Questions we hear often

How long does a typical engagement last?
It depends entirely on scope. A focused coaching engagement might run for three months. A cohort programme typically spans six months. A culture sprint is usually eight weeks. We always agree timelines upfront and review progress at regular intervals.
Do you work with organisations outside Wales?
Yes. While we are based in Collinsford, Wales, we work with clients across the United Kingdom and occasionally internationally. Much of our work can be delivered remotely, though we strongly recommend at least some in-person elements for deeper development programmes.
What makes your approach different from other leadership consultancies?
Three things: we start with diagnosis rather than prescription, we design ourselves out of the engagement rather than creating dependency, and we measure outcomes in behavioural change rather than satisfaction scores. We are not interested in being popular — we are interested in being useful.
Can individuals engage with you, or only organisations?
Our primary clients are organisations, but we do take on a small number of individual executive coaching clients each year. If you are a senior leader looking for a confidential thinking partner, get in touch and we can discuss whether there is a fit.
How do you measure the impact of your programmes?
We use a combination of pre- and post-programme assessments, 360-degree feedback, behavioural observation, and stakeholder interviews. We agree the evaluation framework with you at the start so that expectations are clear and results are meaningful.
